About

About Us

We were founded in 2018 and learned so much working with indigenous nations in Canada. We began to understand the challenges in asserting sovereignty, and joined in the passion and respect for the environment and desire for clean air, clean water and healthy soil, as the foundation of a strong society. We began to understand the challenge indigenous nations had in accessing capital for some solid and transformational projects. These founding experiences continue to shape what we do today.

Chief Chad Eneas, British Columbia – “Jonathan Baynes was highly conscientious in assessing our communities values and sought to find truly sustainable opportunities between the economic, social and environmental challenges, with requirements set out by the community and Aboriginal Affairs Canada.  His vision for growth and transparency was underpinned with a depth of knowledge and experience of discrimination and marginalization within the context of indigenous autonomy. He successfully managed a major corporate restructuring, which allowed the band to assume ownership and management of a $320 million dollar project. “

Impacts

HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT

Clean Air

Clean Water

Healthy Soil

Access to Energy

We don't get caught up in the political ideologies of climate etc, and prefer to say what we mean. Clean air, clean water and healthy soil are the tangible outcomes we expect when wanting to live in a healthy environment. Access to energy is also critical as our highly centralized energy grids are not always reliable.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Access to Capital

Capacity Development

Rural Economic Development

We have seen how great ideas and projects don't get to market simply because of access to capital. We work on reliable projects that deliver a clear outcome. We are especially passionate about rural economic development as these areas have historically not had access to the same opportunities as the big cities.

SOVEREIGNTY

Personal

Community

Nations

Sovereignty essentially means that individual, communities and nations can make decisions and do things and experience the results of their hard work without any external interference, theft of coercion. We want to see individuals, and communities and nations operate sovereignly as an expression of their full potential.

Our Story

Nation First is founded on the principle that nations carry gifts and perspectives for the benefit of all nations. Nation First is not a patriotic organization and believes that if EVERY NATION prioritized their own interests including peaceful relations with other nations and open trade corridors, the world will be in a better place.

Our work in Africa and with indigenous nations in North America has shaped our passion to enable economic upliftment in a way the powers and uplifts local people. We strive to develop capability so the nation does not have its raw materials and resources plundered, but instead is able to export increasing amounts of finished high value products for the benefit of all its citizens.

Global monopolies and government funding programs break the natural laws of supply and demand, and make it more difficult to innovate and deploy projects. This "monopoly capitalism" (not actual capitalism) makes it difficult for business cases to stack up and for new solutions to be able to compete against government subsidized industries, like energy.

This challenge requires a different approach to investment that is not purely based on the bottom line. Viable technologies and projects are funded by us if we believe in them, if they have good people leading them and the financial model allows for a long term level of financial sustainability.
